“The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.” – Kobe Bryant
It’s Memorial Day weekend – and in Michigan, that is something to celebrate! Memorial Day weekend means beautiful weather, time by the water and great food with friends. As we head into Memorial Day weekend, I decided to keep this week’s post short and sweet by simply sharing 3 things that have inspired me lately and will hopefully inspire you as well. Take a look:
1. I recently read a great book that was first published in 1951 called, Never Leave Well Enough Alone by Raymond Loewy. As you may know, Loewy is known as the father of modern industrial design in America. He helped shape the design of everything from toasters to automobiles. In fact, his company, Raymond Loewy Associates, served as design consultants to more than 100 of the world’s largest corporations. I first heard about this book from a podcast interview with some country singer and thought, I’ve got to read that. Not only does it shed incredible light on the process of design and creativity, it is witty and a fun read – perfect to consume as you relax by the pool or the lake.
2. The Tim Ferriss Show is a business podcast that consistently achieves #1 rankings on iTunes. While I’m not a huge fan of Tim’s book, The 4-Hour Workweek, I did come across an outstanding podcast of his from an interview he conducted with Kevin Costner. I will warn you, it is almost 2 hours long and there are f-bombs, but worth every minute of your time! I am a little biased because I love Kevin Costner, but if you’ve got plans to travel this weekend, it would be a great listen during a car ride.
3. Over the past few days, Bob Goff, a good friend of ours at Southwest Michigan First who was a crowd favorite at Catalyst University 2015, hosted the Living Room Conference. It literally started in the living room of his home in San Diego and recently expanded to a location at Disneyland. During the conference, Bob brings in a few close friends to speak on leadership and loving well. He intentionally keeps the number of participants low for an intimate experience. My schedule has not yet allowed me to attend, but it is definitely on my “bucket list.” I encourage you to add it to yours as well.
Enjoy your weekend and don’t forget to keep an eye out for things that inspire you!
