A Kind Word

On a recent flight, I was reminded that sometimes the smallest gestures carry the greatest weight. No, I didn’t get an upgrade. The seat next to me wasn’t even empty. What made the trip unforgettable was something far more meaningful: a handwritten note.

Pam, our flight attendant, slipped us a simple card that read, “It is a pleasure to have you both travel with us today! We appreciate your loyalty as medallion members.”

That was it. Just a few words. But in that moment, we weren’t just passengers in seat 12C and 12D. We were seen. And after a vacation filled with wonderful memories, that small note became the moment that stayed with me, the perfect final touch.

Our team has a tradition called “star notes,” handwritten cards we share every Thursday to recognize one another’s brilliance or celebrate a success. They’re short, personal, and powerful. But here’s the thing: why stop at the office? What if we carried that same spirit of appreciation into the rest of our lives?

Think about it. A short note. A sincere word. A quick message of encouragement. It doesn’t take much — but it can flip someone’s entire day.

So, here’s my challenge: write one note this week. A thank-you, a word of recognition, a simple “I see you.” It may feel small, but you never know the weight it might carry for the person who receives it.

Always Forward,
